A1550 IntroVisor Ultrasonic Tomograph

A universal portable ultrasound tomograph A1550 IntroVisor provides inner structure visualization of the testing object in a form of a real-time graphic and authentic cross-section image.

А1550 IntroVisor is a multipurpose portable ultrasonic flaw detector-tomograph with digitally focused array and tomographic data processing for inspection of metal and plastic.

A lite and easy-to-use device assigned to address ultrasonic flaw detection problems in metal and plastic. Provides a fast, convenient and precise search of flaws, thanks to visualizing of the internal structure of the testing object as real-time section imaging, which makes interpretation of the received information easier and more accessible in comparison with a conventional flaw detector.

Advantages of tomography

Speed and efficiency

  • Efficient and highly productive search of flaws in welding joints on metal items, plastics and composite materials with a detailed documentation of received results.
  • Visualizing of the internal structure of the testing object as real-time section imaging with the frame rate 25 frames per second.
  • Opportunity to conduct ultrasonic flaw detection along the welding joint line without cross scanning, due to big aperture of the digitally focused array and scanning with virtual focus on long distances, which considerably reduces the time for preparing the near-welding surface, increasing the productivity of inspection.
  • Providing a high frame rate on the screen, with which scanning speed along the welding joint may reach 50 mm/s.

Easy data interpretation

  • Visualization of the testing object internal structure in a form of a graphic and authentic image of the cross-section (B-tomogram) on a real time basis with practical scales of length and depth, which significantly simplifies and makes more accessible interpretation of received information.
  • Zooming the image within wide limits: from 250 mm to 5 mm to the entire screen.
  • Automatic and manual measuring of signal levels and coordinates of flaws and their sizes.
  • Ability to measure real sizes of flaws.
  • Ranging the distance between images of discontinuity flaws on the screen.

High inspection authenticity

  • In the basis of the flaw detector-tomographs operation underlies the digitally focused array method (DFA) with receiving tomograms focused in every dot of the cross-section, which assures the best spatial resolution and maximum sensitivity in the whole visualized area, and also high performance of the testing.
  • Providing sensitivity to different types of discontinuity flaws.
  • Displaying images of vertically-oriented flaws.

Easy adjustment and use

  • Simple and convenient MENU of main settings for efficient selection and installing parameters of the working configuration for every testing object.
  • Intuitive interface with hot buttons for the main settings and parameters allows to quickly master the device.
  • Specialists of any qualification level may use the device, including those without preliminary training.
  • Prompt switching between TOMOGRAPH and FLAW DETECTOR mode and according changing the DFA to the classic transducer.
  • Replaceable acoustic units of the DFAs.

Universality and portability

  • Ability to work both in the tomograph mode (В-SCAN), and the classical flaw detector mode (А-SCAN).
  • Possibility to work in scanning along welding line (C-SCAN) mode with further registering received results.
  • Small sizes.
  • Weight of the device is only 1,9 kg.
  • Easy-to-change lithium battery providing 8 hours of work.
  • Big colorful display provides representation of both a graphic image of the cross-section, and results of coordinate and signal levels measurements.
  • Protective cover and a set of «hands free» belts make this device a convenient instrument for work in difficult-to-reach places.
  • Operability in the temperature range from – 10° to +55 °С allows easily and effectively inspection both indoor and in severe outside conditions.
  • Nonvolatile memory for writing tomograms and echo-signals with the possibility to overview on PC without special software.
  • USB connection for information output to an external computer.
  • Special software for retrieving data from the device, further processing, documenting in the form of tomograms and echo-signals with parameters of testing and following archiving.

Visualization mode

In the A1550 tomograph five modes of discontinuity flaw image visualization are realized, adapted to their type. These modes are chosen depending on the purposes of inspection and specificity of the object. For a simple identification of these modes special symbols are used, as shown below. The main characteristics of these modes are shown ibid.

Digitally focused array types used with the tomograph

With the A1550 IntroVisor the following DFAs are used, oriented to different fields of use:

  • М9060 4.0V0R40X10CL - 16 element longitudinal wave DFA with central working frequency 4 MHz of ±30°. Used for testing of the main body of metal and plastic constructions.
  • М9065 4.0V60R40X10CS - 16 element transverse wave DFA with central working frequency 4 MHz and a field of view from 30° to 80°. Used for weld joint inspection (including austenitic). The special feature of this DFA is the absence of a big refractive prism.

The construction of the DFAs allows changing acoustic modules as far as they wear out.

The user can personally change the deteriorated acoustic module without additional operations, which allows conducting ultrasonic testing practically without stopping, increasing efficiency.

Possibility to lap replaceable acoustic modules for different pipe diameters, which significantly enriches the spectrum of problems solved by ultrasonic inspection.

Digitally Focused Array distinctive features

  • Possibility to use different wave types:
    - transverse waves for weld joint inspection with the viewing sector covering the full range of ultrasound entry angles, used in typical methods of ultrasound testing;
    - longitudinal for testing of the main body of the metal.
  • DFAs are commensurable with traditional transducers, that allows to conduct inspection with minimal clearing of the near-weld area.
  • Possibility to change the acoustic modules of the DFA personally.
  • Quick switching between different DFA types.
  • Moving the DFA along the weld joint without transversal scanning, wherewith big aperture and scanning with virtual focusing on big distances, that significantly shortens the preparing time of the near-welding area, increasing the efficiency of inspection.
  • Possibility to use AA with an encoder (supplied optionally).

Software

Specialized software ADM - IntroVisor allows saving data from the device to a PC for further processing the testing results, documenting in a form of a tomogram and echo-signals with parameters of inspection and further archiving.
